Correspondence, notebook, and stories and sketches about Paiute Indians, life in the mining camps of the Comstock Lode, duck hunting near the Sacramento River, Calif., and other topics. Includes material on Wo-vo-kah, also known as Jack Wilson, a Paiute Indian Messiah, and a letter (15 p.) from G.W. Pease, Indian agent at Walker River Pah Ute Reservation, Nev., dated Mar. 1892, concerning population statistics, life on the reservation, the Indian Messiah, and the Pah Ute War of 1860. The notebook contains story ideas and notations of dates that manuscripts were sent to newspaper and magazine publishers. Stories and sketches include: "The Haunted Cabin of Jim Crow Canyon," "The Boss Liar of the Big Bonanza," "Superstitions of Miners," "Marier's Room," "Lost in the Tule Marshes," "Hunting for Market," "Comstock Quaints," and "Rigdon Tandler: the Demon Coroner of Tunneltown."
